Ajit Doval Calls for Stronger BIMSTEC Cooperation to Tackle Global Supply Chain Disruptions and Security Challenges
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval urged BIMSTEC member countries to strengthen cooperation against global supply chain disruptions and emerging security threats. Addressing the fifth BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs meeting in New Delhi, he highlighted the need for dialogue, collective action, and regional coordination to address terrorism, cyber threats, maritime challenges, and economic difficulties.
Doval stated that disruptions in global supply chains have created economic difficulties for all BIMSTEC countries, making stronger regional collaboration essential. He urged member nations to work together to find practical solutions through dialogue and coordinated efforts to overcome shared challenges.
Highlighting the importance of BIMSTEC, Doval said the grouping connects some of the most significant and dynamic regions of the Indian Ocean. He noted that BIMSTEC member countries together represent an economic bloc with a combined Gross Domestic Product of nearly five trillion US dollars, underlining the organisation’s growing regional importance.
The National Security Advisor also stressed the need for deeper cooperation among BIMSTEC nations to address emerging security threats and support regional development. He said member countries have achieved significant progress in countering terrorism, transnational organised crime, cyber threats, and maritime security challenges.
Doval further stated that BIMSTEC countries are well positioned to collectively respond to new and evolving security threats through stronger coordination and shared efforts. The meeting highlighted the importance of regional unity in addressing economic disruptions, strengthening security frameworks, and promoting sustainable development among member nations.
